Everyone should be familiar with the ESC, battery, and motor of the drone. So what kind of relationship is there between them? Do they restrict each other when choosing?
The basic parameter concepts of the three are introduced:
Battery parameters: voltage + capacity + discharge rate, for example: 3S (11.1V), 4200mAh, 30C
ESC parameters: output capacity,
Motor parameters: maximum current (A), maximum voltage (V), KV value. For example: LBP2860, maximum current 80A, maximum voltage 17V, 3400KV
After understanding the corresponding parameters, is there a mutual restriction between them as an important component of a UAV?
Principles of battery and ESC:
1. The battery voltage cannot exceed the maximum carrying voltage of the ESC
2. The continuous battery current output is greater than the maximum continuous current output of the ESC
In the above example, the current output of the battery is 4200X30/1000=126A, and the ESC is 80A, so there is no problem with it. The battery can even be matched to a 120A ESC.
Principles of batteries and motors:
1. The working voltage of the motor is determined by the ESC, and the voltage of the ESC is determined by the battery output, so the battery voltage must be equal to or less than the maximum voltage of the motor
ESC and motor:
2. The maximum voltage of the ESC cannot exceed the maximum voltage that the motor can withstand
What about the ESC? What should be the relationship between the ESC and the motor?
If equipped with a 120A ESC, will the ESC's capacity be wasted? If it is equipped with a 60A ESC, will the ESC's capacity be insufficient? But it will not damage the ESC and the motor. Your second question should be correct. The first one is that it has an 80A motor and only 60A, so it’s no problem. If the maximum is 60A, the maximum is determined by the motor that has absorbed 60A from the ESC. If the motor needs 60A, the ESC will output 60A, so the ESC should be a little larger than the current of the motor. The battery discharge current cannot reach the current of the ESC. At this time, the ESC will not have the highest performance, and the battery will generate heat and explode, so in general, the current of the battery is required to be greater than the current of the ESC.
The above explanation is for the relationship between ESC, current and battery. The three are indispensable for UAVs, and the relationship is also influenced by current and voltage. Everyone must pay attention when choosing.
